topsy-turvy

In a lovely little village

On a river by the sea

A very strange thing happened

That I want you all to see

It started out quite slowly

But by the time the sun went down

The town was topsy-turvy

Turned completely upside-down

It was a bright and cheery morning

When the shop door opened up

The little man who owned the store

Sipping tea from his favorite cup

Looked out of his doorway

And was quite surprised to see

A brand new sign across the street

Saying “Everything is Free”

It sat beside the roadside

Where the highway came to town

And all the people driving by

Parked their cars to look around

The little man could see them all

Confused and quite surprised

Looking around his village

As if they had won a prize

When someone grabbed an apple

From the grocery store display

Then another grabbed a TV

And he quickly drove away

The whole town was going crazy

It was plain as day to see

Because his neighbors in the village

Were also grabbing things for free

The girl’s and boys were clutching

All the toy’s that they could find

Their parents were taking perfume,

Shoes and clothes that looked divine

They were snatching and were grasping

At anything they found

They took books, and paint and everything

Not nailed down to the ground

The little man could not believe

As he shut his eyes real tight

“What on earth is going on?”

He knew it wasn’t right

He blinked, and blinked, and blinked again

And hoped that it would end

But all the crazy going’s on

Kept “going on” instead

There were people running everywhere

All about the town

The shelves were almost empty

And the stores were shutting down

“It just can’t be – this isn’t right!

Its been going on too long

It doesn’t make any sense

Something must be wrong”

Then he realized what was happening

It was all inside his head

It was just a dream he was having

As he lay tucked-up in bed

As the dreamy memory faded

And slumber filled his thoughts

He puffed up his favorite pillow

And he gently nodded off

good-night little one

time to sleep, time to dream
