on science and religion

Some say we were created by the loving hand of God

And to think of any other way is nothing less than odd

Still others say that’s not the way in which we came about

Insisting that mankind evolved, of that there is no doubt

Well, I’ve a theory of my own on which I will expand

But first a cautionary note to those who may get mad;

In Science and Religion, you will find both fact and fiction

And at times it’s hard to tell the two apart

One’s no good without the other, they depend upon each other

So, a compromise is needed for a start

We all know that in the scriptures, it is stated that one day

God got lonely and created the world in which we live today

The birds that fly up in the air, the fish down in the sea

Two people in a garden who were happy as could be

We also know that Mother Nature in her own peculiar way

Is the one who tends the garden God created on that day

The flowers, bushes and the trees, her helpers are the honeybees

She waters with the falling rain and nurtures with the light of day

She grew her garden not in vain but for the beauty it contained

And from on high it was clear to see her favorite was the apple tree

She raised it from one single seed, for one was all God gave her

But one is all a gardener needs when provided by the Savior

When from the corner of her eye, Eve saw a tiny dot

Hanging proudly in a tree as if about to drop

They rushed to see what it could be and just as they arrived

Eve reached up and pulled it down, amazed, and mystified

They rested then upon the ground, as if in contemplation

In honor of the fruit they found, a gift of God’s creation

Though God indeed created the seed, he can’t take all the credit

For Mother Nature made it grow, she watered it and fed it

Now God was pleased to find that these two creatures liked the flavor

That they tasted in the fruit, the fruit of all his labor

But Mother Nature frowned and scorned as the anger in her stirred

“All the years that I have spent, toiling in the dirt

"Bringing life to barren soil and beauty to the land,

Just to have my garden squandered by the thoughtless hand of man.

You won’t believe, you can’t conceive of the anger that’s within me

You’ve brought a curse upon yourselves and now your curse begins

Adam and Eve, you both must leave this garden I call Eden

And from now on I’ll do my best – I’m certain I’ll get even

I will crack the earth below your feet, the land will shake and quiver

Bringing glaciers from the highest peaks so cold your souls will shiver

Molten rock will rain and pour from mountains to the rivers

And the waves that pound upon the shore will to my hands deliver

The frail existence that is Man, the body not the soul

To fertilize my garden land you’ll make my garden grow.

Yes, that’s the way I see it, that’s the way mankind began

Born of nature’s beauty, given spirit by God’s hand

Thrown from Eden’s Garden, like castaways were hurled

An orphan child, running wild in a cold and barren world

we are all the children

of this world in which we live

created in the image of

a force that’s deep within

it’s a spirit that is binding

and to each of us, it gives

a body that is mortal

and a soul which will exist

through time, all-time eternal

growing stronger with each breath

ever gaining strength and knowledge

everlasting after death

spreading through the farthest reaches

through the vast expanse of space

to those who understand it teaches,

for those who disregard it waits.
